Editor in Chief, Arianna Freels

My name is Arianna Freels. I am the owner, head writer, CEO, fashion designer, and overall creative of Brown Orchid. I am fashion creative.

I was born on July 1st, 1999. I have a fraternal twin sister named Ashley.  I was born and raised in Maryland. I grew up in Severn. My parents are both from the south. My father’s family is from New Orleans, Louisiana. My Mother is from Richland, Georgia. Their roots and heritage are instilled in me. I loved my summers going down to New Orleans and exploring the city with my grandparents and other relatives. This has had a profound effect on me.

Ever since I can remember I wanted to be a fashion designer. I loved anything creative. My favorite class growing up was Art. I was doing art shows & even had some of my artwork featured in local museums and libraries! As a child of the 2000’s I remember watching shows such as Project Runway and America’s Next Top Model. What truly inspired me was watching Raven Baxter. Yes, from That’s So Raven. To me, Raven Baxter was really the first person I saw myself in. She looked like me, goofy and carefree, cared about people, and fashion was a part of her life. She wanted to be a designer and someone who loved art. I knew I was meant to pursue something creative.

I graduated high school in 2017 from Old Mill Senior High, Millersville Maryland. I dabbed in Theatre Arts. I did have thoughts of becoming the next Viola Davis, I grew up so shy and reserved I thought it would help me! In some ways it did. I decided to pursue fashion design

I started my college journey at Albright College in the fall of 2017. I attended from 2017 to 2019. I transferred to Stevenson University pursuing fashion again, from Fall 2019 to Spring of 2022. I graduated with a B.S Fashion design and Merchandising. In addition, I am a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. I am a Fall 2020 initiate. I am the Ace of Pearls of 4titude!

I designed under the name Ari Selena Designs.  That name was derived from part of my first name and my middle name. The brand name at that particular time, I used for fashion shows or gig work. I had a tough time during 2022, my final year of school. Things did not align. I almost fell out of my passion for design. So I took a year off. I was exploring different places and traveling.

In 2024, I officially rebranded to Selene Rose. Selene Rose is a Luxury womenswear brand. My goal is to design clothes that make you feel great.

I wanted to create Brown Orchid because I noticed there was a lack of Black Media for Gen Z black women. I hope you enjoy reading Brown Orchid
